Osun Election Day: NANS Gave Election Day Notice as Students Head to Polls

As Osun State residents head to polling units today, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has called on students to prioritise safety, unity and peaceful participation.

The Coordinator of the zone, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, said recognised student structures across the state have established communication channels to monitor developments affecting students during the election.

The channels will reportedly facilitate communication between NANS leadership, SUG structures, JCC officials, sister student bodies and legitimate student mobilisation teams.

Issues expected to be monitored include security concerns, polling-unit developments, student welfare and verified incidents requiring the attention of student leadership.

The NANS Coordinator also warned against the emergence of unauthorised groups claiming to speak for all Nigerian students.

He noted that students may support different candidates but must respect one another's political choices.

With the student population reportedly accounting for about 32.2 per cent of registered voters in the state, NANS Southwest said students have a significant role to play in today's election.

Students were advised to participate peacefully, comply with electoral rules and immediately report genuine threats or irregularities through appropriate channels.

The association urged students to demonstrate that political participation and peaceful coexistence can exist side by side.
