NANS Southwest Sweeps National Convention as Babtee Emerges President, Alao John as Financial Secretary

ABUJA, FCT – It was a historic outing for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest Zone D at the 2026 National Convention in Abuja, as the zone secured two major national positions, including the top seat of the association.

In an atmosphere of celebration, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (popularly known as BABTEE)from Ondo State emerged as the newly elected National President of NANS. Joining him in the national leadership is Comrade Alao John from Oyo State, who emerged unopposed as the National Financial Secretary.

The leadership of NANS Southwest attributed this double victory to the strategic coordination and unity within the zone. Under the leadership of the Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the zone moved to the capital with a unified front, successfully reclaiming its ideological influence in the national student movement.

In a joint statement signed by the Zonal PRO, Comrade Olugbemi T. Timothy, the General Secretary, Comrade Ojetola Babatunde Y., and the Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah K., the leadership described the win as a “testament to competence and resilience.”

“The undisputed victory of Comrade Babtee and the unopposed emergence of Comrade Alao John reflect the overwhelming acceptance and credibility the student community nationwide has in Southwest comrades,” the statement read.

As the new national executives prepare to take office, the Southwest Zone has pledged its full support to ensure a tenure focused on students’ welfare and progressive leadership across the federation.
