The Forum of Zonal Coordinators of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has formally called on the newly inaugurated Senate President, Dist. Sen. Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, to intervene in the ongoing constitutional controversy surrounding NANS Zone A (North West).
In a letter jointly signed by Comr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Iyke, Coordinator of NANS Zone F and Secretary of the Forum, and Comr. Muhammad Mu’azu Hina, Coordinator of NANS Zone E and PRO of the Forum, concerns were raised over the circumstances leading to the purported removal of Zone A Coordinator, Comr. Nura Baba Waziri.
According to the Forum, previous reconciliation efforts involving former NANS President, Comr. Olushola Oladoja, sought to resolve the crisis amicably. The letter further stated that the official vehicle linked to the dispute was reportedly recovered following presidential intervention, but was later allegedly taken and resold by stakeholders.
The Coordinators argued that the issue extends beyond individual interests and touches on constitutional governance within the student body. They maintained that the power to remove an elected official rests with constitutionally recognized organs of NANS and not stakeholders acting independently.
The Forum urged the Senate President to provide constitutional clarity on the matter and ensure that democratic principles and due process are upheld across all structures of the association.
They expressed confidence that timely legislative intervention would strengthen institutional accountability and preserve confidence in the NANS Constitution.
