The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has called on the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, to use the influence of her office to champion the urgent rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State.
The appeal comes as the First Lady visits Ekiti State on an official working engagement — a visit the student body describes as both timely and significant for the Southwest region.
In a statement signed by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), NANS welcomed the First Lady warmly but emphasized that the security crisis affecting students must not be ignored.
The recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has left several students and teachers in captivity. Families remain devastated. Communities are traumatized. Parents continue to live in uncertainty.
According to NANS Southwest, despite reported rescue efforts by security agencies, several victims have yet to regain their freedom — a development that has heightened anxiety across the region.
“No child should be forced to learn under the shadow of fear,” the statement read.
NANS Southwest acknowledged the ongoing efforts of security agencies but stressed that the gravity of the situation demands intensified action and sustained national attention.
The association specifically appealed to the First Lady to:
- Draw national focus to the plight of abducted students
- Advocate for accelerated rescue operations
- Push for stronger security architecture around schools
- Champion long-term policies for educational safety nationwide
As a former senator and long-time advocate for women and children, NANS believes Senator Oluremi Tinubu holds the moral authority to amplify the urgency of the crisis.
Beyond the Oyo incident, the student body warned that insecurity around educational institutions is becoming a systemic threat to Nigeria’s future.
When students are afraid to attend school, the entire national development structure weakens.
NANS Southwest reaffirmed its solidarity with affected families and vowed continued advocacy until every abducted student and teacher is safely reunited with loved ones.
